Firefox extension: Copying text that includes highlights is broken

If I select text where parts of it are highlighted and parts not, press Ctrl-C to copy and then paste it somewhere, only the text that was NOT highlighted is copied.

The correct behaviour would be that the whole text could be selected and copied, if it's highlighted or not.

This issue is not limited to copying. 
If I highlight part of a comment in old Reddit, make a selection to match the highlight, then reply to what's selected, I get quotation marks, e.g.:

– but nothing quoted. 
Reddit Enhancement Suite (RES) enabled, if that's relevant. 
Generally (defocusing from Reddit): the inability to work normally with text, if highlighted, is a show-stopper. I had to disable the extension …
… and so, abandon use of the service, for now. I use FreeBSD, for which there's no readily-available app.
