Local ai suggests tags that I haven't used
Erik I
Lately when I try to bookmark often I get suggestions that are not already in my collection.
The suggestions are kind of relevant but for example
- way too specific
- uses capitalized words (I more or less consistently use lowercase)
- and generally uses tags I am sure I never entered myself
I'm all for local ai but at the moment it looks like either it is extracting words from the web pages or based on a common model (annoying) or using someone elses tags for ai (which you promised not to do).
I know I can turn off local AI but I rather want it to work properly, i.e. by suggesting relevant tags from my already existing tags, maybe especially recently used ones, instead of constantly suggesting new tags.

Unfortunately, this isn’t a bug. It’s the AI upgrade noted in the changelog a few months ago. I and several others also posted feature requests about it. This is mine, and others can be found by searching various combos of “AI” and “tag.” https://better.raindrop.io/feature-requests/p/show-indicator-for-ai-generated-tags-when-saving
I agree that many of the new tags are excessively specific and inappropriate in context, like the AI grabbed a few SEO terms and cherry-picked some nouns that appear more than once. The new AI tag suggestions quickly turned Raindrop from one of my favorite apps into a daily annoyance I resent using. It wouldn’t be as bad if the new tags were clearly marked and tacked on in addition to existing ones, but when they’re shown at the expense of our own tags, they simply act as an obstacle.
I’ve been hoping for months that there would be a fix, but the developer hasn’t said anything about it here or on Reddit. Last I checked, the help documentation still says Raindrop only suggests existing tags. I guess people like it, or they’re tolerating it for now. I’m still using Raindrop because I haven’t had the time, energy, or spare change to actively test other apps on my ridiculously large, messy bookmark collection.

I've made a similar feature request: https://raindropio.canny.io/feature-requests/p/ai-based-tagging-only-propose-existing-tags

Now it has also started suggesting lowercase tags for the few tags I consistently capitalize, most importantly country names.

Erik IYup. Same for singular/plural, redundant compound forms, and removing intentional symbols, e.g., “#reference” instead of my “#^ reference” (I use the carat symbol in folders, files, and tags to keep reference items together near the top for quick access). I intentionally use all lowercase with a few key exceptions. When the new AI tag recs came out, I didn’t notice right away that it was creating so many redundancies. I spent a lot of time in the old Raindrop tag manager when it came back online.
